In 2002 the Cannery was threatened with demolition as with many historic buildings the Cannery had fallen in to disrepair and the city had started the process of eminent domain. The current owners of the building Shawn Maynard and Chris Bowen purchased the building and started down the long road of restoration. Several years and thousands of man hours later the Cannery re-opened as a retail center for the community.
The first stage of the restoration of this converted brick and timber factory was completed in 2006 and it is now home to many businesses and local craftsman. There are plans to convert the entire 40,000 square foot factory into a retail mall similar to the Trolly Square building in Salt Lake.
With about one third of the building stripped back down to its original brick and timber feel the front portion of the factory is now home to The Cannery Boutique and Furniture Gallery, Utah Fireplace & Utah Air Systems, Bullfrog Spas, Great Harvest Bread, 2nd Ave. Salon, Mr. Appliance, Pet Chalet, Uptown Auto, Timbercraft Billiards. The upstairs mezzanine was added to the warehouse in the mid 1900’s and housed many community events. This portion of the factory is shared between the furniture gallery, fireplace showroom and a number of small professional offices.
